Martin-Luther-King-Memorial-ModelCelebrate the life, the dream and the legacy of the civil rights iconic hero at National Mall ceremony in US capital

One of the most important dedications in the history of black culture and heritage tourism is all set to take place this year in Washington, D.C.  The ceremony for the dedication of the Dr. Mr. Luther King, Jr. memorial statue will happen this summer on Sunday, August 28th at 11 o’clock in the morning.  This dedication will be an historic event for the U.S. and nations around the world as Dr. King’s vision and timeless beliefs of equality and non-violence continue to resonate with people in many nations.  Dr. King’s monumental statue is an important milestone for black evolution and progress in the US as this is the first black and non-president to be honored in a major way at the National Mall.

Dignitaries, world leaders, civil rights pioneers, and people from all over will assemble together for the long-awaited celebration and remembrance dedication. The ceremony promises to be one of the most powerful moments of a lifetime that will be witnessed by citizens from all over the country and others from around the world. Paying tribute to Dr. King’s legacy of non-violence, it will be the culmination of a week of events in and around the nation’s capital.

king_speechThe Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial includes unique landscapes and structures that powerfully convey three fundamental and recurring themes of Dr. King's life: justice, democracy and hope.  Located on a four-acre plot on the north east corner of the Tidal Basin within the precinct of the Jefferson Memorial and north of the Roosevelt Memorial, the King memorial contains concrete plaques and walls with inscriptions from some of his words and deeds. Drawing from the great orator’s own rich metaphorical language, the inscriptions and themes of what Dr. King stood for are placed strategically throughout the memorial site.

The King Memorial is intended to instill a sense of commitment to the promise of positive change in visitors. It is also meant to serve as a quiet and reflective place while at the same time, evoking powerful emotions and thought that reflect the spirit of Dr. King’s messages of non-violence and commitment to peace.  A profound teacher who appealed to the consciousness of the massed, Dr. King’s lessons were anchored in human dignity and equality for all.

The leader of the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation, Inc. is Harry E. Johnson, Sr. who serves as President and CEO.  Johnson says that King enacted irreversible social change and led our country forward, relying exclusively on non-violent means. “The Memorial will be a lasting tribute to Dr. King’s legacy and will forever serve as a monument to the freedom, opportunity and justice for which he stood.”

The dedication ceremony follows five days of activities going on throughout the city that week.  There will be a formal dinner on the opening day to dedicate the events and to commemorate the men and women who continue to pursue the dream of global peace and social equality.  The week’s activity will include a civil rights pioneer’s luncheon honoring those who were ‘partners in the dream’ and also a women’s luncheon honoring women whose strength and dignity continue to inspire hope.  A civil rights concert and interfaith prayer service will also take place during the week of activities. Other events that week include the youth event, Encouraging Future leaders, and the Dream Gala, the premier VIP formal event of the dedication, where dignitaries and supporters come together to celebrate the realization and completion of the King Memorial.
